2 Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Zagora
2 Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Zagora
We will start our 2 Day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora early morning (so you can fit as much into your first day as possible). We ask that you truly be prepared by 8.00 a.m. because at that time we will be leaving and beginning a once-in-a-lifetime trip. This tour is offered as a private excursion in a minivan or 4Γ4. The chance to ride in the desert caravan will also be available on the Marrakech to Zagora desert safari. However, we understand that not everyone finds riding a camel to be comfortable, so if youβd rather, you can choose to walk with the guide or take a vehicle to the desert camp. This journey is ideal for those who are short on time and wish to seize the opportunity to become introduced to Zagora desert in just two days.
Marrakech to Zagora Desert Trip Highlights
Day 1
Marrakech - High Atlas - Ait Ben Haddou - Anti Atlas - Agdez - Draa Valley - Zagora Desert
Day 1: Marrakech, Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, Zagora Desert
Set out early in the morning (about 08h00) on a private 2-day desert excursion from Marrakech to Zagora through the High Atlas Mountains Tizi Ntichka Pass (2260 m. alt.). We pass several distinct Berber communities on the route. Several pauses will be made along the journey so that you can take in the scenery, snap pictures, or just relax with a cup of coffee, mint tea, or use the restroom while stretching your legs. Once you arrive to Ait Ben Haddou Village, enjoy a quick tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is known for its Kasbah and walled village and has served as a backdrop for a number of well-known Hollywood epics.
Afterward, youβll travel to cross by the Anti Atlas Mountains, Agdez hamlet, a well-known crossing for convoys in the past, and Draa Valley with its hundreds of thousands of different palm tree species. Lunch will be served either in the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah or in Ouarzazate. The Draa Valley area is thought to have one of Moroccoβs biggest palm plantations. We will reach to Zagora in the late afternoon to prepare for the camel ride across the sand dunes and view the magnificent sunset before returning to the Zagora Desert Camp. Take advantage of it, and a truly magical night beneath a starry sky is waiting for you.
Day 2
Zagora Desert - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
Day 2: Zagora Desert, Ouarzazate, Marrakech
The second day of a 2-day trek over the Sahara Desert from Marrakech to Zagora. The stunning dance of shadows on the sand dunes will be your reward if you wake up early enough to enjoy the magnificent dawn. Arrive at Ouarzazate for a traditional Moroccan breakfast, where you can explore Taourirt Kasbah before enjoying a leisurely lunch. The route back from Marrakesh is along the main road, which passes through numerous Berber communities along the river and across mountains. You occasionally descend into the fruit and oleander-lined valleys beside the river. Olives, walnuts, pomegranates, apples, pears, and quinces abound in the gardens. Berber children and women care for goats and sheep, climbing even the steepest incline in search.
