5 Days Desert tour from Fes to Marrakech
Follow the caravan routes from your riad in the southeast to Merzouga. Views of the Middle Atlas and Upper Atlas mountains are seen on this journey. You’ll travel to the greatest cedar forest over the Middle Atlas Mountains to view wild apes. As you stop for lunch in Midelt, the scenery will change as you go into the vast, broad high desert to Er Rachidia. Drive through the renowned Tafilalet date palm estate and the Ziz Valley. This region is home to the present royal family, the Alaouite dynasty. You will be greeted with mint tea by Merzouga in the late afternoon.
After eating breakfast at the riad, you can explore the surrounding area. The Gnawa will demonstrate their music and manner of life to you. They were originally slaves in Sudan. Nearby lies Merzouga Lake, which is home to numerous birds. Visit Rissani’s souk, the birthplace of the king’s family and the meeting place for caravans from Timbuktu in Mali. Here, hoods are worn by many men and women. After relaxing in Merzouga, you’ll travel over the sand sea on a camel with a knowledgeable guide in the late afternoon. Dinner is served in our desert camp. The camp has Western-style restrooms, which is convenient.
Early in the morning, your camel guide will wake you up so you may catch a sunrise that might be the most breathtaking of your life. You’ll return to Merzouga the following morning as the sun is rising, stopping along the way to admire the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. You’ll see the tallest and narrowest gorges, Rissani, Tinghir, and Todra, after breakfast in your riad. We’ll visit the Dades Valley to witness the magnificent sand castles and “monkey feet” rock formations after lunch in the midst of the canyon. A posh hotel with a view of the Dades valley will be where you spend the night.
We will go through the Dades Valley to reach Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The “way of a thousand Kasbahs,” which is the name of the route through Dades Valley, provides endless opportunities to take some of the best pictures of the trip. We’ll make a pit stop in Kalaat Mgouna, also known as “the rose city,” to get rosewater, which will leave your linens smelling wonderful long after your trip is over. Continue on to Ouarzazate via the Amridil Kasbah. During the 18th century, Amridil was one of the last Berber chieftains; today, a large Glaoui population resides there. You’ll spend the night at Ouarzazate.
Visit the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a ksar (fortified town) that was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. On this magnificent stage, movies like Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz, and others were filmed. We’ll go to Marrakech after visiting the kasbah to explore Tizi Ntichka port, our nation’s highest point at 2.260 meters. After stopping at viewpoints to capture pictures of Berber villages, we’ll check you into your riad in the Medina. nighttime riad.
